Hi all,

Does anyone know anything about a route that you get onto RT 40 in NC and then get onto a new 4 lane, right before Willimington,NC and take that into Myrtle Beach ??

There is a new road there as I remember passing it on the way to Howard RV in Wilmington...
I am headed there on Monday and will follow up this post with the answer late Monday night if that's soon enough...
If not soon enough call Howard RV and tell them you're "coming" from Myrtle Beach and want to know the best way to get over to 40....

Will accomplish the same thing, just backwards....they don't have to know you're really only going to 40, but you COULD go RV shopping too!!

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the quick reply, however I am leaving tonight in about another hour or so. I just heard about this or I would have posted sooner. However the person who told me about it said it is just before 40 ends in Willmington, and there is a sign that says to Myrtle Beach. So I am just going to give it a try. Things like this can make Rving more interesting, LOL!!

Hmmmm...we're heading to MB from Richmond, Va right after Christmas. Streets & Trips takes me down 95 to Lumberton, then to Conway to 544 into Ocean Lakes. Wonder if hitting I-40 to Wilmington then Rt. 17 would be about the same? Last time we were through Wilmington headed south, did not seem to be many ways to by-pass a lot of Wilmington traffic.

Let us know, Bob. thanks.

Gary, from where you're coming from I can't see any better way than what you described...

I will take 95 the very same way you posted....

I just talked to the folks at Howard and there IS a bypass that is new,but it bypasses downtown Wilmington's business district.
As a matter of fact, when I left Wilmington and headed on my now ill fated Texas trip,I used this bypass and it takes you out and around downtown, but you still have to get over to the other roads to get to Myrtle Beach...

In closing....FROM THE NORTH, 95-501-544 is the best route.

I'll PM you with Susan's cell number...I've told her about you and she has her eyes open for what you've asked about...
I'll be back down there the 13th and 14th as they're installing a slideout tray in the front compartment...(only one that didn't have one.)

Rebelsbeach,

Do you get off I95 at South of the Border to pick up 501 or do you get off at exit 181 RT38?
Then 38 to 501 and onward to Grand Strand.
