NM campground recommendations Navajo Dam

Looking at doing some fishing near the Navajo Dam & San Juan River area and wanted to see if anyone had recommendations to a good RV park near that area and the water. Walking distance to the water would be great but not necessary if roads are passable with a Toyota Camry.

Recommendation of your favorite fishing spot in that area also greatly appreciated.

Cottonwood campground on the river, a couple miles below the dam. Make reservations. A camry could get down to the river at the quality waters easy. Big trout (18 - 24") in the quality waters, but are old, smart, and hard to catch (BTDT). There is a little store and bait shop below the campground that will have the hot fly for the time you're there. San Juan Leaches tend to work year round but are frowned upon by the purists.

Thanks for the info. I looked up the Cottonwood Campsite and it looks really nice but some of the reviews said the 2 mile dirt road leading to the campsite is very bad.
To the point that some of the campers turned around. That review was dated a year ago.

There's nothing wrong with the road leading to Cottonwood. Our 40' motorhome did it a few times. It's just a typical gravel road. Go slow so you don't kick up a lot of dust but it's a perfectly safe road for a RV. It's a nice campground. The fishing on the river is fantastic!!

Outstanding, thank you for that info.
I checked and the electric sites are mostly reserved for the days we will be there but I understand they have Walk in spaces so we'll see what happens. If not I heard of the Abe's Motel and RV place that's close by too. Plan on being there around the second week of Oct for two days or so.
