NY: Tappan Zee to Croton on Hudson, truck route?

I will be traveling from the Tappan Zee then north to Croton on Hudson this summer and need to avoid the Sprain and Saw Mill Pkwys due to low clearances. What is the better route, 9 or 9A?

Thanks in advance, Dan

We stayed in Croton Point in 2009 and we did enter from the North. We departed accross the Tappan-Zee and although you come close enough to see the N end of Manhattan it was uneventful. We were pulling a tall fifth wheel coming in from N and I panicked and pulled off an exit when I saw the low clearance signs, but after watching some high profile trucks go though we determined that the signs are lowest point. Also we came in through a park near West Point with several round-a-bouts and some very low underpasses. All in all it is just easier to cross the Tappan-Zee. Have you ever been to Croton Point? We enjoyed the park very much, and in 09 they were upgrading the bathroom facilities. I assume that you know the Metro north rail line runs Right at the entrance to the park. If you catch an express train you can be in mid town Manhattan in 45 min. Follow this link to a train schedule.
Enjoy!
