Ohio 35 WV to Dayton
I'm traveling from Burlington, NC to Shipshewana, IN pulling a 41' fifth wheel. I'm planning on going up Ohio 35 from Charleston, WV to Dayton. Is anyone familiar with that highway and is it a decent road?

Good morning
Rt 35 is a good route. When it leaves I 64 it is a good 4 lane highway. Aprox. 20 miles further north it goes to 2 lanes for 15 miles. This area is a good 2 lane road but with heavy truck traffic.
Once you enter Ohio it is 4 lane flat road. Watch your speed the Ohio SP patrol are every where..
We live in South Charleston WV and we travel this route often in our motorhome. We try to leave early when the truck traffic on the 2 lane section is less.

Thanks for the information. I'm taking the fifth wheel up there for repairs so I'll leave at O-Dark-30 Saturday morning to avoid the traffic. Is there a park or campground North of you on that route that you would recommend? I'm finding that it's slim pickings close to the highway.

Being on a Saturday you may want to get reservations for that stop over. You may have problems finding a campground not filled up. But when you get to
I-71 and 35 interchange area there are 3 truck stop there to stop and eat.
So if you head south for 20 miles to exit 45 there are 3 campgrounds in the 5-7 miles from the exit.
They are:
Wilmington RV park a Thousand Trails park - probably going to be full
Cowen Lake State Park maybe a chance depending on the weather.
Caesars Creek State Park maybe a chance depending on weather.
When you get close to Dayton on 35 you will run into construction for about 4-5 miles before turning north on I-75.

I agree w/Wvdazey. I've traveled I-35 from Chillocothe at least 2x/yr to where it now meets I-64 for over 40 years. I was just through there in April & it appears the last leg of the 4-lane is very close to opening because there was a lot of construction around the uphill curve from Buffalo on the WV side.
Truck traffic on that 2-lane part is heaviest mid-afternoon. It can be a bit unnerving with all those semi's whizzing past, but it's not for much over 10 mi. If you're traveling near dusk, carefully watch for deer.

There is a good KOA just west of Dayton on I-70. It is busy so call for reservations .

Thanks for all of your replies. I’ve already been up there and back but will use the the information for the trip back in October to retrieve the fifth wheel.
