Other trip planners

We just took our new 5th wheel out for the first time, locally. Waiting for it to come back from the dealer for repairs. We’re planning to go to New Mexico and Colorado in June. Is the trip wizard the only route planning app out there or are there other ones available out there. Better ones?

Not sure about better, but we have been quite happy using Google maps since it became available after we started RVing in the 90's. We are very much K.I.S.S. principal folks = Keep It Simple Stupid.

During much of this COVID era being mainly based at our family acreage, I've spent quite a bit of time using RVParky setting up several trips and saving them for future enjoyment hopefully sooner rather than later! I'm actually quite liking it for a free planner.

Of course to each their own always, but just sharing what's worked for us for the longest time and experimenting the past year with RVParky.

Happy Travels.

I have found no better program than Trip Wizard for trip planning that displays graphically so much information relevant to RVers.

Like any good program that includes so much information there is a slight learning curve.

We've been experimenting with RV Parky. It's free and has lots of info. Lots of campgrounds listed with reviews. It's not integrated with a GPS, but you can use Google Maps or a dedicated GPS like Garmin, Rand McNally, etc. for more precise driving instructions. We also use Campendium and Allstays to find camping areas not listed in either RV Parky or Campgroundreviews. We haven't found any single program that lists everything.

We primarily use RVTripWizard for planning the trip routes and also RoadTrippers to get a feel for possible must-see attractions on the way. And a Garmin RV GPS.

We like a good road atlas & plan our own trips depending on what we want to see.

So when you select campgrounds along your route do you call the campground while planning or do you contact them while you’re driving?

That really depends on the type of traveling you're doing. If you're doing a destination weighted trip (bucket list kinds of places), then I'd recommend you reserve ahead. You're going to be competing with alot of people for spaces at those locations. But if you are enjoying the wide open spaces, I'd think you'd be better able to wing it. Also depends alot on the hookups that you're comfortable with or without at you selected stops. The more you need, the more likely you'd need to plan ahead with reservations.

Thanks to all of you for your input and advice. We really appreciate it!
Hope to meet you on the road somewhere.
