You can go south on I-81 and then cut over east on any of the highways that take you to the coast. Once past the beltway -- 95 south isn't bad either [ no accidents of course!].

I live in southeastern Virginia and even in my daily driver heading towards western Pa to visit Mom I avoid the beltway. If I take the beltway I'll need to stop somewhere to shave before getting to Mom's. Always made good time using US17 thru northern Virginia and picking up I95 in the Fredericksburg Va area.

I70 out of Breezewood to Hagerstown where you can take I81 south. Pick up I66 east a few miles south of Winchester VA then at exit 28 where you can pick up US17 towards Fredericksburg which will take you to I95 and points south.

Bypass Richmond using I295 but just watch the exit off I95 south. It's a left lane exit and traffic can be heavy and fast moving which can make getting into the lane somewhat difficult.

If you're adventurous you could also take US522 thru Berkeley Springs W.Va bypassing I70/I81 routing thru Hagerstown and Martinsburg W.Va

X2 on Busskipper's route. I travel from central PA to Florence regularly via that route. US522 is a good road. Gets you to Winchester without all the traffic. Just obey the speed limit on that one!
