Palm Springs to Spokane no RV

Leaving the coach behind this time, just taking a 2wd toad packing cable chains for emergencies. Choice is California via Grants Pass or the faster Vegas/Missoula - 15 to I90 route. My question is around heavy weather chances on the Vegas route is it worth the couple hours time savings.
Thanks for the non RV question.

When?

My choice is to avoid I-5 whenever possible. And then Interstates altogether. With the way the weather has been, the Siskyous can be as trick as anything else.

My maps app is showing Vegas, Twin Falls, Tri-Cities to Spokane. That would be my personal choice. I've travelled from the Portland Area to Peoria AZ several times, and I've seen the worst weather on the other routes.

Depends on the time of year. Except for the dead of winter I would take US395 most of the way. Far eastern OR and WA are not that high in elevation. Watch your weather windows.

I-5 is not that bad but I don't like the traffic. When I go to Seattle from near Reno, I stay east of the Cascades and drop in over Snoqualmie Pass.
