Parker Az. to Prescott Az.

We are wanting to travel with our 30' class C from Lake Havasu City thru Parker then Salome and I think the road is 89 that angles up thru Prescott Az. and continue on to Sedona. Was wondering about the road into Prescott from the south, it looks pretty curvy. Thanks

We took 89A from Sedona to Prescott, it is through a mountain. Glad we were in our car as our class A wouldn't have made it. Look like 89 south of Prescott is also through a mountain pass. 89A north of Sedona to Flagstaff is also not doable in a motorhome.

You can easily bypass the curvy, steep part of 89 heading into Prescott. We've done it often with our 40' motorhome.

95/72 to Bouse to 60 through Salome/Wenden to 71 at Aguila to Congress & Hwy 89.

Take 89 and just beyond Yarnell at Kirkland Jct is Kirkland Valley Rd. (CR15).

Take it a short distance to Iron Springs Rd. (CR10)

Go through Skull Valley to Iron Springs and into Prescott. Easy drive!

twogypsies has the correct route. Look for the big signs that state the length limits. When you turn to go through Kirkland and Skull Valley you are actually taking the Truck Route, Normally lite traffic and a pretty drive.

Also Hwy89A is restricted for large RV's thru Jerome. you need to take Hwy 169 over to I17 then north.

Thanks for the replies, our Dynamax is like driving a dually pickup so mountain passes don't phase us much.
Thanks for the info

From the 'Mountain Directory for Truckers and RVers':

"Not recommended for trucks pulling trailers over 40'long. From Wilhoit to Prescott the road has many curves that are too tight for large trucks. The guardrail is damaged at almost every curve (where there is a guardrail). The grade is up and down for the entire 15 mile stretch in this section. The curves last all the way and are 20 and 25 mph curves - hardly a straight stretch at all."

I'd highly advise taking the Skull Valley route!

As long as it's paved, we are in no hurry
Thanks

The pass, all three of them, are not bad.

Highway 89 from Congress to Prescott is curvy, but not horrible. In a short rig like yours, it will probably be okay.

The next segment - from the fairgrounds over Mingus Mountain through Jerome to Cottonwood - your RV is too LONG and too WIDE. Passing through Jerome, I had to get someone to move a parked car to get a Ram 2500 Long Bed through the town. Had to fold in the mirrors for the cab because there wasn't enough room between the parked cars in downtown. And the 90 degree street corner turns are as tight as any you have ever seen.

The third segment north of Sedona where 89A climbs out of the canyon to the level of Flagstaff is a very tight series of switchbacks where depending upon your toad, you might feel you are going to hit it's back bumper.

At a minimum, disconnect the toad and one of you drive it separately.

Did the Hwy 89 from Congress to Prescott yesterday with our 30' Dynamax and pulling our Bronco. Very scenic and curvy road with decent shoulders and plenty of pull out spots. Fun and slow road with a 40' length restriction.
