Pennsylvania to Arizona

Going on a month long trip to Arizona from Western Pennsylvania. Been looking over a few good travel atlases and I have a general idea of how we want to get there. Just wanted to know of any good alternative routes. Really would like to avoid big cities but I see a couple that I probably can't. Generally we will be traveling interstate highways southwest until we hit I-40 west. Really want to avoid going through Illinois due to restrictions they have on concealed carry. I won't leave home without it.

Not sure what you are looking for but I40 to Oklahoma City and view many sights there then Albuquerque and Santa Fe are nice places to explore then from Gallup up to Canyon de Chelly at Chinle, AZ then 191 to Monument Valley then 160/89 to Flagstaff and on 17 to Sedona, AZ.

We always stop in OKC as there are so many things to see and do there. Then I40 west we stop in Amarillo and eat at the Big Texan. They have their own campground. Then ABQ for a day or two at least, then west to Holbrook and then south through Peyson which brings you right into Mesa.

Nice drive.

Take I-81 south to I-40 to avoid Illinois. There are other ways.

You don’t have to leave home without it , and you can go through Illinois .
If you have a valid carry permit in your state , you can legally have a loaded firearm in the vehicle with you, if you don’t have a valid permit the firearm must be unloaded & locked up away from driver .
If it were me , I’d pass on through & try to plan it so you don’t have to stop in the state of Illinois & give them any of my money .

Yeah I don't want to give one red cent to that state. I know the law had changed for going through Illinois, but if stopped you could still be detained. Many cops don't know their own laws well. My son is a Statey in Pennsylvania and says it's really an eye opener as to how many don't know the laws and it's worse with local pd's.

Our route at this time is I-79 south, I-80 west to I-76 west, I-71 south, I-65 south to I-40 west at Nashville. Then follow I-40 to Arizona to Kingman. We have close friends who retired and moved back to Arizona last year and we are going out to see them. My wife is originally from Arizona and she loves going back every so often. Since we now have a TT we decided to make a long vacation for the month of April. It's a good time to be in Arizona.
