Planning a trip from Charlotte, NC to Tampa, FL

I am planning a trip in my RV (2021 Tiffin Phaeton) starting in Charlotte, NC ending in Tampa, FL. The shortest route is south through Columbia SC, then I 95 through Savannah, then Orlando and west to Tampa. Am I better off taking a longer route that will take me down I 16 then I 75 straight in to Tampa. A bit longer but I avoid I 95 traffic. Any advice on this routing would be greatly appreciated.

traffic in SC has been really bad. quicker you get to I-75 the better u are. But try to avoid Atlanta . Also coming down via 95 when u hit I-4 that's another nightmare.

We drive to/from Charlotte a lot from east of Orlando (think Titusville). We use I-95 to I-26 to I-77. Traffic can be heavy sometimes and sometimes it is OK.

Our kids just met us in St. Petersburg for the holidays and used I-77, I-26 to I-95 then US301 over to I-75. They said there was traffic along the way there too. This way will avoid the whole I-4 nightmare.

Traffic is traffic. You'll get in it any which way you go. We've tried them all.

Maybe pick up I-20 in Columbia and take it toward Atlanta but get off at US129 south toward Macon and then pick up I-75. With I-75 all the way to Tampa you are just trading off the I-95 south traffic for I-75 traffic but at least the road is in better condition.

I live in St.Augustine Florida travel to Tampa Often. I would go with the 77 to 26 to 95 to 295 to 301. You will jump on 75 north of Ocala or you can take 301 further. Avoid Orlando.

You can also take 77 to 26 to 95 to 295 then get on US 17 South, to US 19 you can pick up various routes to 75 that way as well takes you though Ocala National Forest. Mostly 2 lane 55 MPH roads.

Just made this trip a few weeks back. A normally 6 hour drive to Kingsland Ga took us 9 hours because of traffic that became really bad about 10 miles short of i95. I wish I had gotton on US 301 much sooner and stayed on it till Ocala when we hit i75.

We just ran that route from Outer Banks down to Orlando then to Key West in October. I-95 was rough in spots, traffic was heavy, but it is something you have to deal with if you are traveling.
We stayed in the Orlando area for 6 weeks total and went to Tampa a couple of times. I-4 had construction, they were still working on it in Orlando area and past Hwy 27 area.
Traffic in the Orlando/Tampa corridor area was heavy. There was an accident on one trip back to Orlando and the traffic backed up for about 4 miles, at least.

Like said, traffic is everywhere, changing routes, you will just change one traffic area for another traffic area.

I drive thru Charlotte every year on my way to Fort Myers. I found this to be the best way. I-77 to I-26 to I-95.
Exit I-95 at Yulee, Florida, exit 373.
Make right on Hwy A1A, rt 200. Follow to Callahan and on to rt 301. A1A & 301 are both divided highways. Not interstate's and a few stop lights, but an easy drive. Especially after 77,26 & 95.
Follow 301 to a right on 326. 326 for 2 miles to the I-75 get on at mile marker 358. 301 is marked well to make right on to 326 to I-75 South to Tampa or Fort Myers...........
Look at google maps and you can see this route.

This is my plan from Augusta (25 to 16 to 95 to 295 to 301) and then pick up 75 near Ocala as we head to Naples. I have driven this route by car and it is easy. I4 through Orlando is a pain. People complain about Atlanta, I find Orlando much worse.
