Planning a Trip to South Bend Indiana

We are planning a rather quick trip from O/C Calif to arrive in South Bend Indiana mid November. We are looking at I-15 N, I-70 to Denver, and then I-80 E to the Chicago area. Seams like a rather simple route. Just wondering if there are any unforeseen issues with grades or weather. If the weather is bad, we will take the I40. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sounds reasonable to me. Just monitor the weather between CA and Chicago every morning and be prepared to detour South.

As mentioned, keep an eye on the weather. October 31, 2020, we had snow, freezing rain for the day, we were in Elkhart at MorRyde having work completed on our 5th wheel.
Where are you staying in the area?

At that time of the year. I would head east on I10 till I55 north.

I55 north to I57 north

I57 to I70 east

At Indy circle around and take Rt 31 due north to South Bend.

The whole trip could be a crap shoot when heading north at that time of the year. Ya never know.
