Rand McNally Large Scale Motor Carriers Road Atlas

looking to purchase a new road atlas and have zeroed in on the above referenced road atlas (plan B for navigation). pages of this atlas are laminated and i'd very much like to hear from anyone with direct knowledge if a standard yellow highlighter will work on the laminated pages. what about a dry erasable marker?
looking for a way to highlight our planned route so my can follow along.
