Redwood drive
About the second weekend in September my wife and I will be taking our 34 foot motorhome and towed to Redding. Then we’re going to head over to Eureka, Will be leaving there and heading up the coast towards Lincoln city Oregon. I was just wondering if anybody has ever drove that route, And what is there to be expected as far as road conditions. Would it be an easy drive or is it quite hilly and twisty. Just asking because it’s going to be our first time out on that section of the coast. Thank you for any ideas.

We camp hosted in that area a couple of years ago and the park ranger warned us not to take 299 from Redding if we were towing our fifth wheel.

Lots of little towns, but as any coast highway, there are hills , but not that bad......the lookout spots thou are all on the south bound lane....but, if your ready for one, then cross over....you could even keep going north to Astoria, then east on 30 and take the Rainier Bridge....

I assume you're talking about Hwy 101. It's a very good road for RVers. You'll see many. It's not mountainous. It does have small 'hills' and it's not a straight road..... but it's a good one. Have a great trip!
However, if you're thinking of taking Hwy 1 at any point in California then that's a biggie!! I'd recommend staying at a park on Hwy 101 and doing a day trip on Hwy 1. It's beautiful but not RV-friendly.

Highway 299 from Redding to Arcata is narrow, winding and lots of hills. Make sure you are well rested, and minimize any distractions. Lots of summer RV and boat traffic, as Eureka/Arcata area can be cool and foggy. Going east on 299 gets to sun and warmth.

299 is fine, but if you are not real comfortable with winding hilly roads 199 out of Grants Pass is an easier drive.
