Richmond, VA to Ocean City, MD...best route
We are heading to Ocean City, MD right after Labor Day to start our fall travel. My route planner gives me two options....a northern route from Richmond up I95,Rt. 301 to Annapolis, then east over to Ocean City. The other route offered up is I64 east to the Hampton Roads area, then taking the CBBT and up the eastern shore to Ocean City. Even though I have lived in VA all my life, I haven't traveled up to the Annapolis area since I was a child and I am sure it is a congested area now.
Of the two options, looking for any suggestions from any RV'rs from the Richmond area who may have made a similar trip.

If you go via the CBBT you can stop at Wallop's Island and Asateague National Sea Shore. The history and Wallop's is very interesting and Asateague is so much fun with the wild horses wandering through the campground.

If you take the CBBT you will have a delightful ride. I think the entire Delmarva peninsula is a beautiful area. Make sure to turn your propane off, if you have it, before going thru the tunnels.
If you take I-95 up to Annapolis you can get very frustrated with all the traffic. Sometimes it just like a parking lot. The only way I travel the I-95 corridor is at night when traffic has died down.

That is what I was thinking. We are actually starting out in Ocean City and plan to work our way back down the coast over Sept, Oct, Nov. with stops in Cape Charles, Virginia Beach, Outer Banks, Emerald Isle and then Myrtle Beach. So, we would get to cross the CBBT and travel the Eastern shore twice.

From someone who has made the trip - Map - https://binged.it/2lgEhoG - takes you up 301 to Southern Maryland then the two lane roads to Annapolis - across the Bay Bridge to Denton - Milford the RT 1 to Indian River Inlet.
Needless to say AVOID RUSH HOUR - Positive, is, it is not the Interstate - Not I-95 - Not Fast but not too slow and will allow you to see some of the Country you have Missed - And allows you to not back Track as you head south.
Most likely this route will not pop up in Google as it is one we have used often after Many, Many years of trying to find a way around I-95. Not faster just more pleasant.
Just another Option,
