Road conditions on Hwy 88 from Minden NV to Jackson CA

Later this week we will be stopping in Minden Nevada and then will be heading to Jackson California.
We plan to travel south on hwy 395 then take 88 into Jackson.
How will the fires affecting our planned route?

SR 88

[IN THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA & SIERRA NEVADA]
IS CLOSED FROM PEDDLER HILL TO KIRKWOOD (AMADOR CO) - DUE TO A WILDFIRE - MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE

https://roads.dot.ca.gov/
https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/

Hwy 88 goes directly through a large portion of the Caldor fire area and then borders rhe control line ror many more miles. I imagine its open to local traffic with restrictions as necesssary but you’d be much better off taking 395 to 80 to Sacramento then 50 to 16. Last time I went to Jackson I took 16 out of Sacramento and it was a nice drive.

Thanks for the information.
I was hoping to go south instead of up around the lake.

How about 395 - 89 - 4 then 49 into Jackson?

You do not want to drive 4. Better to take 108 and you might not like it either or go around on 80.

What are you driving?

Hey 88 is okay but depending on what you are driving so it may be a nice ride or not. I dragged my setup over it a few months ago and it was tolerable as a drive. Very pretty though. There are big rigs that drive it too but it's slow for them.

Going over the summit on Hwy 4 isn't an option if you are towing or in a MH.

50 is okay but 80 is just the easiest but the metro traffic on both sides (Reno and Roseville\Sac) is annoying
