Route help for new snowbirds Verona NY to S. East Florida.

Well were finally retired and plan to take our RV to South East Florida (from Rochester/Buffalo New York area) for 6 month. We drove our car that way but driving our RV with toad has us nervous about hills, mountains and traffic. Does any one have a suggestion about a RV friendly route. Thanks ahead of time.

Well I-75 will run you right to SE FL, no big mountains. I have heard folks saying I-75 is awful in Ohio tho so maybe get on it south of there. I cannot comment on the tangle of interstates between NY and there tho, we generally avoid that part of the country. West Virginia is hilly tho.

And for the record, with very few exceptions (VT, NH maybe) there are only hills east of the Mississippi. For mountains go west of there.

We live a few miles from Syacuse and hop on I-81 down to I-77, and over to I-95. A bit of I-26 may be in there also.

We had a old 30 ft class C towing a Jeep Renegade on a dolly. There was never an issue with the hills on that route. I would drop it out of O/D on the down hills to help keeping the speed down.

We now use our 2017, 26 ft Axis and a Honda Ridgeline, 4 door pickup, on the dolly doing the same route.

As long as you use Tow/Haul and cruise control on the one BIG hill ( Fancy Gap I-77 ), you will be fine.

We stay in Pine Grove Pa. for the summer then go to Fll for the winter hop on I-81 down to I-77, and over to I-26 to I-95. I have a 42 foot 5th wheel.

Go that same way then 95 all the way to Fort Pierce, then across 70 to 27...ending in Lake Placid.

Good Road except in PA after Pine grove going north or b4 coming south :(

If you get tired of the interstate take 321 & 301 south of Columbia SC. That’s the way I go since we’ve retired. Takes longer but I’ve got time. [emoji41]

I have done the Twinboat route as well.
I do avoid I81 in NE PA as it is ROUGH. We take I99 from Corning to Williamsport then I180, to Rt 15 to Rt 22 to I81 just N of Harrisburg, Pa. Much better roads.

I77 traffic N of Charlotte can be problematic even now with most construction complete.
We frequently take I68 E from Staunton, Va to RT 29S to Greensboro, NC where we pick up I73 S which takes you to I95 close to the NC SC line. Rt 29 is 4 lane divided with bypasses around cities. A few stop lights but not a big deal. Actually a very relaxing drive vs I95 or other interstates.
