Route questions traveling to Glacier Natl Park

We are traveling by MH from the Kansas City MO area to Glacier Natl Park in Montana. We are trying to figure out the best route as we are new MH owners. We've been looking to travel via I29 North and either picking up I90 west or staying on I29 north and cutting across on I94. The reason I was thinking the I94 route is I've been running into is problems finding places to stay around the Rapid City SD area. We have been to the Black Hills area before so we don't have a problem with not going an alternate route. We are traveling in mid to late July. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Mid to late July is just before the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in the Black Hills which is why you are having a problem finding a camp ground near Rapid City. I own and ride a Harley and often go to the Rally but if I were you and you are not interested in the Rally I would take I94 and avoid the area in late July thru mid Aug.

First off, Welcome to IRV2!

I94 will take you a long distance out of the way since it eventually merges with I90 in Montana anyway. If you can spread out your stops to stay from the Rapid City area to avoid the Sturgis crowd you can probably find places in Gillette, Sheridan, Billings etc. We stayed at a KOA outside of Mitchell SD that wasn't too bad for a stopover. US93 from Missoula north to Kalispell is a decent route and we stayed right outside of Hungry Horse. I hope you have reservations already. I checked a month ago and just about everything in the area was booked for August.

I just did a Google maps route:

1521 miles - Kansas City, MO to Sioux Falls at I-29/I-90 to West Glacier

1437 miles - Kansas City, MO to Sioux Falls to Fargo to I-94 to West Glacier

Not only is it only 84 mi. farther taking I-94, it will also be the fastest.

Take I-94

From I-94 you can check out Theodore Roosevelt Nat'l Park. Weave yourself up on Hwy 13 to Hwy 2, taking Hwy 2 to West Glacier. You won't have to get on I-90.
