Route Suggestions Jacksonville FL to Death Valley
I am new to RVing and wondering what route to take and how long it should be. I plan on leaving the beginning of March. Any help will be appreciated.

Based on that map I would figure around 40 hours of road time if you cruise at 65-67. In march, the weather could be a deciding factor in your route selection. I-40 can get nasty if there is a Spring storm. I-10 could be the better choice.

Figure on 200-300 miles per day and take a day off from driving every 3-5 days. What are you driving? Driving any RV is a tiring experience, max speed should be 60-65 and leave plenty of stopping space.

We plan our travel using a 50 MPH average so a 400 mile goal per day requires 8 hours of driving barring any major highway traffic problems. That's proven to be very reasonable over the years. Google maps will show much faster but that's not for RV travel.
You route really depends on too many variables to say how long it'll take.
Is this a bullet run with only the destination in mind or is it more leisurely with other stops in mind?
When pressed I can do tank to tank at 500 to 600+ miles per day but that's not my prefered way to travel.
Good luck with whatever method you choose.

I am retired. This trip is very leisurely. I am a high end amateur photographer. I am driving a Ford Expedition limited with a V8. and pulling a 2015 Lance 2295. The reason for trying to figure out how long it will take to get from Jax to death valley is I think that I will need reservations some where there and don't want to make them so that I am pushed too much.

In your case a lot of detailed planning shouldn't be necessary. Your Ford and Lance will be able to fuel at just about any convenient gas station.
You have several options for boondocking if you like or call ahead for park reservations sometime mid day when you have a better idea of where you might want to layover.
Considering your profession you may decide to stay a few days at a location for photo ops.
Sounds like a great trip so don't spoil it with too many details or commitments. Just go with the flow and you'll experience a trip envied by many who are tied to schedules.
There a many apps to help you along the way.
Just remember one very important thing:
You can't be lost if you have a full tank of fuel!

Based on the time you are leaving it is transition season and there shouldn't be any problem getting a cg. Follow John12 recommendations.
My DW is a semi-professional and you will be able to get some great photos along the coast.
Be careful of the weather and watch the heat in Death Valley, I don't know when it gets hot so be careful.

Everything that I have read tells me that Death Valley should be OK thru the middle to end of April. I hope that is right.

If Death Valley is a primary stop you aren't time limited you might want to head there first, with minimal stops, take you photos of Death Valley and maybe Joshua Tree and then meander back. There is a lot to see and do in the west.

Pahrump NV is close to Death Valley and lot's of reasonably inexpensive RV parks are located there. We stayed at an Escapees affiliated park, Pair-A-Dice RV Resort. We are members of Escapees, so our cost was approximately $110 a week. I would also suggest using I10. It's a little rough, especially in west Louisiana, but a warmer route.

You won't need to make any reservations for the whole trip. That's a good time to travel.
According to the national park website (highly recommended reading) April can be between 90-113 deg...… but you may get lucky. We've been there a few times in November and March and had perfect weather. We were just going to drive through on one trip and it was the first week of May. It was unbearable. We dry camped so no AC and we sat outside the whole night - dozing occasionally.

I’m leaving Las Vegas in the morning heading down south of Ft Meyers. I usually go I-10 but have decided on I-40 this year. Reports of I-10 from Houston to the Mississippi Line have convinced me to avoid that route this year do to construction and poor road conditions on I-10 in Louisiana, you might want to consider 190 across LA. Check into Passport America membership for good rates on campgrounds and a stop over in Pahrump, NV at Lakeside RV resort is always restful. Unless you lose at the casino!

Death Valley is my first stop in California. From there I am going to Joshua tree for a while and working my way north to Washington. I especially want to spend some extended time in Olympic. After that is when I will start my meandering back to Jacksonville. I am guessing that it will be about a four month trip.
