Route to Snowshoe WV from DC

Hello. Looking at taking a trip to Snowshoe WV for some winter fun. Coming from DC area (actually southern MD). Buddy made the trip before and recommended against using SR 250 due to steep grades and switchbacks. Any route recommendations that would be easier for towing? Thanks!

Where are you planning to stay in your trailer? Towing I would take the 48 from Strasburg to catch the 220 in Moorefield, then the 28 to Seneca. If I were towing to Snowshoe, I would make a right in Seneca to go to Elkins and come in from the north on the 250 to the 219. That's a flatter, easier route that will take you to the western entrance.

If you're staying on the Cass side, go straight in Seneca instead of turning to go to Elkins. I wouldn't try to tow anything up to Snowshoe from the Cass side and I wouldn't try the eastern entrance towing.

I wouldn't try the 33 up from Harrisonburg or the 250 up from Staunton towing.

We have been skiing Snowshoe for 32 seasons (usually 2 or 3 weeks per season). I have seen a few RV's parked at the bottom of the mountain in Slattyfork at the Snowshoe Inn. I have also seen a couple rigs parked on top at the Top Of The World parking lot.

I have never considered driving our motorhome there. If it snows...getting up or down would be very difficult.

We will be arriving there (by car... 960 miles one way) on Sunday January 30th and will ski/ride for 5 days.

Good luck and let me know how it goes!

Sorry, should have said we are staying in a campground in Cass. Friend who was there last weekend said there were a fair amount of trailers there, but I have never driven the route myself and know some roads are sketchy. Thanks for the advice. Looking at taking the route through Moorefield, and taking it slow!
