Routing ideas - NV to FL
Hey all, I will be flying home in Sept to haul the family out in our newly purchased 5th Wheel. (I'm gone for work most of the year and we decided its the best way to stay close as a family. Kid is only 2 so we can enjoy it for a few more years.)
Anyway we will be averaging 400 miles a day because we only have a week to make Jacksonville. Earlier this year I took the 40 to Amarillo and then dropped through Dallas/shereveport to the 10. Which seemed easy enough.
My wife is considering (wanting) going through Memphis and then south through Birmingham. (Which on paper is less than 100 extra miles.) Any suggestions ideas on people familiarn with the routes? We don't have lots of time but would like it to be as enjoyable as it can be.
Thanks in advance. Love the forum!

If you are travelling 400 miles per day ... it seems to me the route is immaterial ... I don't think you will have time to stop and enjoy any of the sites that you pass along the way ... especially 400 miles per day with a young child strapped in a car seat for 8 hours a day ...

Kent:
US78/I-22 from Memphis to Bham is interstate and ends just short of I-65 north of Bham. If you ignore the Local Traffic Only signs at Exit 85, you can go on to Exit 93, Coalburg Rd, turn right for abt 2 miles, left on Daniel Payne/41st Ave.and you're a mile from I-65. There's a Flying J on the left just before you get on I-65.
Streets & Trips show US-280 from Bham toward Columbus, GA. Not familiar with that road.
Good Luck!

If you end up going. IA Birmingham consider US231 to I-10 by way of Dothan. Good highway all the way.

Thank you
Thanks for the responses so far. I realize that its not going to be a very fun trip, but we'll do what we can because that's all we've got! Thanks especially for the thoughts on the route, that type of info is priceless.
Anyone familiar with the Memphis to Jacksonville route: is it flat or are there any substantial grades? Thanks again everybody!

Kent, I'd avoid that route for awhile due to TS Isaac & the lingering damage it caused, inturpitation of fuel, closed CG's and the like. I just left NV 2 weeks ago headed to FL and got caught by the storm, stuck for 5 days, and I traveled I-10 / I-12 all the way since El Paso. And, it's not the first time, but dozens.
Best of luck whatever you decide.

That Flying J is the worst one I have been in as for getting back eastward toward I-65! Must cross two lanes of traffic to get into two lanes waiting at a traffic light a few hundred feet away! Busy, busy, busy!!!
