Routing Reno to Coos Bay Or

Just was wondering if someone was familiar with the roads from Reno to Coos Bay Oregon. Looking at taking 395 from Reno to Susanville then 44 to Old Station then 89 to Mt Shasta. I'm fairly sure the rest of our route is just fine, just wasn't sure about this stretch, any input would be appreciated. 39' Raptor 5th wheel

I went that way in 2017 except I was going from north to south. I plan to do it again this year from south to north. Good roads - nice drive. I htink the photo below is from 89 near Mount Shasta.

Awesome, thank you for the reply. I know most of Northern California pretty well, just not that corner.

We went up that way in April though we hit Bandon OR first before heading north along the coast.

We went up I-5 from Sacramento and then west on 42. We avoided the 42S spur into Bandon, apparently twisted and windy with no shoulder and lots of forest truck haulers.

42 will drop you out just south of Coos Bay.

We stayed one night in the "Randall E. Collier Rest Area" on I-5, one of the best we have stayed at ever.

Since you will be on CA 44 the Bogard Visitor Center/Rest area is a couple of hours out and a good place for a stop too.

395 to 44 is very easy. 44 to 89 is not bad either. A big hill on I-5 before Ashland and you can stay at the Valley of the Rogue state park, right along the Rogue river. Then take 99 to 42 before you get to Winston, I use this as a short cut before you get to Winston. 42 will meet with 101 just below Coos Bay. Good place to stay just outside Coos Bay is Bullards Beach state park. Very nice camp grounds.
