Rt 250 Thru WVa and Ohio
We will be hitting the road Sunday traveling to Michigan and Indiana from Northern Virginia. My plan is to travel west on US 50 from Winchester, Va. Thru WVa to Rt. 250 just east of Clarksburg, WVa. Then NW on 250 thru Ohio to Rt 2 West. I'll be driving a 29' MH with toad. Has anyone driven 250 in WVa and Ohio? I prefer avoiding interstates when possible. I'm familar with US 50 in VA and WVA,
Thanks

I'm familiar with most of these highways.
If I was driving from Winchester to Ohio route 2 I'd take 522 from Winchester to I-70 to the PA turnpike at Breezewood. Then west to the Ohio turnpike to route 2 west of Cleveland.
Even though you'd incur turnpike tolls some of those costs would be negated by much better gas mileage. I also think my route is shortly than yours.
You'd need Popeye arms for some of your proposed WV route!

If you've got lots of time and patience, your route will work. You say you know about US 50, so I guess you don't mind curves, hills, stop lights and small towns. Once you get to Parkersburg, you can go west on Ohio 32 to Athens, then NW on US 33 all the way to Ft. Wayne if you like. It will take a lot of time, but it avoids interstates. At Athens, you can also go West on Ohio 32 (the Appalachian Highway) to Cincinnati if you'd like.

You could go 70 to 68 (Hancock, Md.) to 79 (Clarksburg, WV) to 50 (Parkersburg, WV), and then over to Athens

In the past I've traveled this route several times from Sandusky OH (OH Rt. 2) to I-77 at Strasburg OH (south of Canton) on the way to Florida.
The road is almost entirely 2 lanes with small towns every 10-15 miles. It carries a lot of traffic, especially truck traffic, and there are few places to pass due to the amount of oncoming traffic.
It's a tough 105 miles.
I much prefer taking OH-2 to Elryia (it's a limited-access interstate style road) where I pick up the OH turnpike to I-77.
I hate toll roads, and travel them as little as possible, but US-250 is a lousy, slow drive.

Thanks for all of the recommendations will probably follow 522 north from Winchester, Va. Anything to avoid the capitol beltway, I-270 corridor.
