You know...now that I think of it, that may have been their off day and they did drive around and up in their toad.
Send me a p.m. if you are coming to Ouray; you'd be welcome to park in our secondary drive way. The views are killer from there and the Cascade Falls flows about 30 ft behind the driveway in the flume.
Hi
Headed east now, near Kansas City. Saw a vid on a guy who took a Sprinter based RV up. Biggest thing they would allow.

Took the Toad to the devils playground. As we got there someone had a heart attack and everything got hectic. A copter tried to land on a road but couldn't do it after 4 tries.Wound up landing on a thin water control berm. Real feat of flying in that thin air. Then there was thunder and lightning and we all go chased back down the mountain again! Poor guy didn't make it On the way down we hit the lower shuttle area and found that they were sending shuttles up from there so we went. 1//2 capacity. Matched couples every other row only. All masks ans sanitized. At the top it snowed and was really cold! My head was spinning with just walking. Construction up there was intense.

Well worth it. Amazing views. Tracker did OK. Engine pulled well all of the way. Trans got shifty but was fine after we got down.

Might see you next summer.

My Dad and Uncle were identical twins and lived quite similar lives. When I was a kid in Texas both families drove to Colorado for a summer vacation trip. We drove to the top of Pikes Peak in two early 50's Desotos with 2 adults and 3 kids in each car. No problems.
The only car problems we had was one of the cars vapor locked in Telluride (IIRC.) It may have been Leadville. Seeing as how that was about 70 years ago I don't think I have to have perfect recall.[emoji57]
What I do remember perfectly was being allowed to stand on the front fender to pee on the mechanical fuel pump to cool it and the gas inside to get the car started.[emoji41]
