RV thru Lassen Volcanic Park
Heading to LVNP in a couple of weeks. Will have stayed in Susanville prior. Wondering if anyone has taken CA 89 thru LVNP from CA 36 to CA 44? Will be traveling in 37ft Tiffen Red and not towing. Will end up at Manzanita Campground. Any advise is welcomed. Thanks...Ron

No worries, Mate!
Took our Discovery 40G through there a couple of years ago and didn't have any issues. We were advised to unhook the TV but it would not have been necessary. Nice drive.

Long story short...I made it as far as the snow gate at the top. DW about had a coronary on the way back down.
I guess it would depend on you comfort level of driving a mountain twisty road. I wouldn't have a problem taking the rig in my signature to the top but I have no idea of what is on the north side.

Yep; check ahead to see if the road is open , tried to tour through years ago and came to a 14' snow wall across the highway , that was in May/June that year too.

I just read yesterday that Lassen County has closed things back up due to a Covid-19 outbreak from reopening. You might want to verify that info to see if it impacts your travels.

From Susanville to Manzanita campground you'd be taking 36 for less than 10 mi. to 44 to Manzanita on 89 just off 44. That part is definitely OK.
You didn't state where your destination is after leaving the campground. While there drive the whole distance through the park to see how you feel about 89. Don't just take off in your RV for that drive. It's a doozy!
Here's the park's web site with map. Every national park has a wonderful web site to explore.

Thanks...was actually planning on taking ca89 for 25 miles from ca36 at the bottom of LVNP to ca44 at the top then to Manzanita Campground. Is that section of ca89 doable in a 37ft class a DP????

I don't think you'll want to take 89 in that section if I'm looking at the map link I sent above.... the squiggly section.
Out of Susanville take 44 to the campground. If you want to leave via 89, drive it first when you get to the campground in just your toad to see how it is for you.

Just completed CA 89 thru Lassen Volcanic National Park yesterday afternoon. Left Susanville westbound on CA 36, then CA 89 northbound thru LVNP and camped at Manzanita Lake Campground. Traveling in 2015 Tiffin Red 36QSA. What a fantastic ride! Beautiful road, barely any traffic, gorgeous views and not nearly as difficult as I would have thought from google maps satellite view. Speed limit is mostly 35mph but some hairpin curves required much slower due to NO GUARDRAILS!![emoji33]
Campground also fantastic but make reservations as they were full.
Anything under 45ft OK.
