Sacramento to Bryce Canyon fun stops

Hello. We have a week of RV camping at Ruby’s Inn coming up later this month. We’re all set with plans while there, but also looking for some fun stops during the drive back home. Getting to Bryce, we’ll be taking I80 to 50 to 427, and stopping at Ely for one night. But again, coming home we’re looking for an extra day (or 2) for a fun excursion. Don’t want to be too far out of the way though.

Any suggestions?

It's 700 miles via 50 to Reno then I-80.

Great Basin National Park is one stop. Nearby is Sacramento Pass BLM campground which is an awesome place to spend a night while touring Great Basin. You won't believe the stars!!

Head South several choices Zion, Lake Powel, if any water left, Las Vegas, Lake Mead, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park. Depends if you want 395 or 99.

If you are stopping in Ely, NV let me recommend the train museum.

Ward Mountain is close by for a low cost overnight stay. No hook-ups but is nice and quite.

One of our favorite trips was Cameron Park (near Sacramento) to Zion to North Rim of the Grand Canyon to Bryce to Great Basin. We loved the mule ride through the hoodoos of Bryce. Great Basin was a very pleasant surprise. One of the best cave tours (if it's open). Great hiking up the creek that makes the campground a lush oasis in the desert. And hiking up to the bristlecone pines (perhaps theoldest living thing on earth). Pack everything from shorts to parks. Enjoy your trip.

Darn Jayco BM, I was thinkin up on some maroon soiled hill in the shade of a mountain you got yourself a prospector type cabin, a coral out yonder, a well in the front yard, a vegetable garden off to the side a shop out back....well Sacramento is pretty darn good too. Love the Lake Tahoe area in the heat of the summer and the cold of winter too... splash and swoosh fun.

Kodachrome....Valley I got a Nikon Camera... Love to take Photographs ....

Southern Utah is chock full of awesome places, an old-fashioned AAA map will do you wonders! If you drive off the paved then well nothing like it on gods earth! Northern Utah is great too starting with the foothills of the Rockies and pine forests and patches of aspen again a lot of splash and swoosh fun up there. Remember snow ball fights on the outskirts of Salt Lake City at the end of July, those mountains remained snow covered all the way into late Sept early Oct when the new snows arrived up there. The snows would reach the valley just before Thanksgiving like magic.

Here is a pic from a post card/map thingie...

Thank you all for the ideas and suggestions. I’ll spend some time researching them further and hopefully make some plans for pit stops on our way home.
