Sacramento to Mammoth Lakes Summer 2018

Looking to go to Mammoth Lakes from Sacramento in June or July. Thinking CA 50 to CA 89 to CA 395 would be most direct. We are from Southern California and do a lot of mountain driving like CA 243 and have run I40 to I25 to Denver in the winter of 2017 with no issues.
Driving a 33' coach with a Toad.

Any comments or recommendations?

We've gone the route you planned with our 40' MH. Try to do 50 on M-Wed. It's a popular weekend trip and crowded with folks in a hurry. If you're coming from southern California why not take 395 all the way north?

From Northridge you can take 14 to 395 and head north to Mammoth on 395.

hwy50 to 89 to 88 to Garnderville to 395 is the route we take. Do not take 89 over Monitor Pass. It looks shorter but way too steep with too many curves. There is a short cut in Gardnerville--Centerville to Dresslerville Rd is you're looking to save time. If you wanted to drive thru Tahoe stay on 50 to 207 and that will drop you into Gardnerville.
