Safe routes

Is there a map or software program that I can upload my rv's specs on, and will provide recommended routes to take. I uploaded my rv onto rv life wizard app, and it indicates my rv is 13'6", but when I selected a point to depart from and the destination, it took me under overpasses that were lower than my rv. It didn't provide a alternative route. Am I expecting too much, or is there a program that will work as I'm hoping?

I use a Garmin GPS for RV's/Truckers. It uses my height and weight stats to keep me on RV safe roads. There are probably other GPS brands that will also do this, but I have always used Garmin.
Thanks,

I live in Colorado Springs and take the route shown on this MAP.

I take this route. By going this way I avoid Denver traffic, the horrific traffic on I70 west of Denver, the poorly maintained I70 and I don't have to deal with the LOONNGG grades both up and down through the tunnels and Vail Pass. It is about 30 miles further than I25 to I70 then west but in a motorhome is probably about the same travel time and a lot less stressful. In addition it is MUCH more scenic than I70. The grades are much less on this route than on I70. You join I70 just west of Vail Pass.

The last eight miles are curvy but really scenic. I have no problems with my RV even though it is primarily 2 lane highway until you join I70. I drive a 34' motorhome towing a Jeep.

Many will advise you to take I25 to Denver then I70 but I MUCH prefer this route.

I think you thread got hijacked with directions for Moab....

back to the topic......
I don't trust any smartphone app - not even the RV Life app. I think you should invest in a good RV GPS (like a Garmin). heck - you spent thousands of dollars on your RV - a few hundred for some relative feeling of safety isn't too much to ask.

I always double check my Garmin route with AllStays Camp and RV app for low clearances too.

Not sure why the thread got moved, or hijacked, but.....
Thanks for the advice

On RVTW, can you describe how you believed you were being routed under overpasses that are lower than your stated height?

RVTW will sometimes show a low overpass warning when the one that's being warned about goes under the roadway where the roadway actually goes over the low underpass. You have to zoom in with satellite view to confirm where the underpass is actually located. You shouldn't encounter any underpasses on US highways or Interstates that are lower than 13'6". The only way to know for sure the actual height of your RV is to measure it.

Here is a prior thread about the same subject.

It highlights the route and then shows a warning sign that the overpass may be lower. When I opened the warning, it shows a height less than my rv. I thought it would route me around such issues. Guess not

Check the post just prior to your last one for previous reports of this same issue.

Further to LT Dan's response, a very easy way on you map to check out those height warnings is to use the Street View Icon on the lower right corner of your map page. Attached is an example for a little bit different situation where a poster had thought he was going to encounter a low bridge/overpass on I-44, but the use of the icon will be the same for you to verify what RVTW is telling you. Just drag that Street View Icon to the spot of the Warning on the map to see what the warning is really about. 9 times out of 10, Street View will be available for you to validate or refute the warning on your route. Give it a try to see if you really have an issue.

Ok. The warning is for the underpass, not the overpass. All is good. Thanks

Low clearance warnings are actually proximity alerts and may indicate a road going under the road you're on, a road immediately alongside the road you're on (commonly RR underpasses) etc. Always take a look using Google Earth / Maps in streetview mode.

Also, don't assume all low clearances and other obstacles are actually mapped.
