Safest route from Cherokee, NC to Florida avoiding Atlanta
Hello. Looks like I need guidance again. We are heading bank down to Florida from Cherokee, NC Saturday and want to avoid Atlanta and crazy mountain roads. Any suggestions? We took 64/74 here from Chattanooga and it scared the crap out of me!

You can take U.S. 441 south out of Cherokee and follow it to Eatonton in Middle Georgia. Take U.S. 129 South out of Eatonton and it will cross I-75 in Macon, Ga. Follow I-75 down to Florida. U.S. 441 is a 4 lane highway most of the way and there are bypasses around most of the congested smaller cities.
I-75 and I-85 are probably not too bad on Saturdays but there is never a guarantee. We came thru there last Sunday afternoon and only had about a mile of stop and go traffic at I-85 and I-285. You just have to keep your head on a swivel and pay attention. Not a stress free drive thru Atlanta.
If you want to avoid interstates, I know a guy who runs US-441 from Okeechobee all the way to TN several times a year and says he really prefers the route.

I would go east on I-40 to Asheville then South on I-26 to Columbia,SC...not knowing where in Florida you're going to decide then to go I-20 to 83 to 75 or go down 95
Now,26 will have a grade or two,but a Interstate so slow down and life is good...C

Badlands Bob has the best route. I prefer 441 to Madison and the to Forsyth *city, then 75 to the Macon bypass and avoid that section of surface roads and the trip thru Macon.
There is no need to do the I-26 route east and all that in order to go south.
