San Antonio to North Carolina, best route advice

I'm flying out to San Antonio to pick up a car in a couple of weeks. I'm looking at either I20 out of Dallas to Atlanta and I85 to NC or I30 out of Dallas to I40 in Little Rock to NC. The last time I was on I20, 15 years ago, it was a wagon trail through Louisiana and Mississippi. Just wanting to know if it still is and any reports on I30 and I40 west of Nashville would be appreciated.

For a car I would tend to say I-10, I-12, back to I-10, then up I65 in Mobile, to I-85 in Montgomery to Atlanta, ...

In an RV I would suggest probably I-30 across Arkansas, .... as it has fewer cities, expansion joint issues, narrow lane construction zones, etc.

Just did a trip with my brother to Texas and we went down through Nashville and Memphis - Texarkana it was a breeze but coming Back I went through Atlanta.

While it was doable it was painful - just too much traffic, in Atlanta.

Also I-10 in Louisiana is not one I favor in any vehicle.

In an Auto they are all doable just depends on what you would enjoy - might just check the State DOT's for Construction and plan around that.

I enjoyed the more northerly route over Atlanta, and the drive through the Smokies is almost always Beautiful.

Best of Luck,
