San Diego to Livingston, TX to South Carolina

Hi All,

Looking for route suggestions for this cross country trip. I have ~ 2 weeks to get to South Carolina and have to stop in Livingston, TX for 3 days and a DMV appointment. We’re sporting a 04 Diplomat towing a 14 Honda Accord on a Stehl tow dolly. It’s our first cross country with a Class A. I’ve got about 2,000 miles under my belt on shake down trips to Arizona but any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Mike, Erin, and Ava

I-10 to US290 outside Segovia, TX

US290 to Brenham, TX

TX105 to US 59 in Cleveland, TX,

US 59 up to Livingston.

All good roads, most are 4 lane, though US290 is a bit narrow for a few miles west of Austin (4 lane road, just narrow lanes and curbs, no shoulders, though that was as of l2019, and they were starting to widen it so it may be better by now). Avoids driving through San Antonio and Houston, you can skirt Austin on the southside, going over to Bastrop before meeting back up with US290

Livingston on to South Carolina, take US59 up to I-20, then I-20 on across to wherever makes sense for your final destination in South Carolina.

No problem, Livingston is right at 100 miles from my house so I tend to know the cross country highways going through there.

p.s. fuel up before getting on US290 at I-10 there are not many big rig friendly gas stations on that route until you get to Bastrop then there is a Buc-ee's with over 100 fuel pumps, most of them with diesel. Take US290 to Hwy71 on the southwest side of Austin, then 71 to Bastrop, then 21 back up to US290 again in Paige. Buc-ees is at the intersection where 21 splits off 71 in Bastrop, you can't miss it. If you have never experienced a Buc-ee's before you should plan to stop even if you don't need to fuel up, it is worth it. If you don't know about Buc-ees there are MANY youtube videos about them, the one in Bastrop is fairly large, but not their largest location.
