San Mateo - Half Moon Bay

Hi everyone.

I'm helping my son with his move to San Mateo. I'll be driving from SoCal with his family and was wondering if Hwy-85 and I-280 are ok for a 37 ft (40 ft stem to stern) motorhome pulling a car on dolly.

I'll probably head over to Half Moon Bay on Hwy-92 while there and it looks like that will be no problem.

Any RVers with experience in this area out there?

Greetings
I live on the other side of the bay but have traveled 92 many times over the years. From the junction of 280 heading west on 92 there are areas of the road that are steep, windy, and narrow. Last trip through in my pickup I recall thinking a large vehicle would be a real chore to navigate through here, especially with a toad. It is very pretty though.

85 to 280 are fine. 92 to HMB I haven't been over in a while but here is a 92 is not an RV friendly road but passable....

Plan to avoid around commute hours. East bound mornings or West bound in the late afternoons.

We travel to HMBSB a couple of times per year on Hwy 92 from 280

Often the garbage trucks or construction materials are slow going on the road and sometimes we are the slow ones. Uphill, downhill, and around the bends.

We tow a Jeep with our 38' dp.

On a nice weekend day with a festival in the HMB area, the six miles from 280 to HMB can take one hour due to traffic.

Thanks everyone!

@JellyBean: Good video!! I saw a few semi's and large trucks so it looks very doable for me.
