Santa Cruz to Quartsize -- too many options

This will be my first time heading to Quartsize, AZ I'm currently in the Santa Cruz area. Anyone have route suggestions for me? BLM or National Parks are my preferred stops.
Thanks!

101 to Paso Robles to I-5

We like to exit at Bakersfield to avoid a lot of congestion farther south.

Then 58 east to Barstow; south on 247 to Desert Hot Springs
or.... 247 to Yucca Valley & 62 east to 177 and south to I-10 east.

Could also drive through Joshua Nat'l Park from Yucca Valley to I-10.

The Orange grove rv park (not positive on the name of it) in Bakersfield is a nice stopover.

It sure is. We stayed there several days, this past winter. The oranges were ripe and the park allowed us to pick as many as we wanted. We made fresh OJ every morning.

They allowed us to store the coach on 30 amp in their overflow area at no charge, so we could drive the toad to Sacramento to visit family and friends.
