I,

We are taking our DPMH from Seattle to New Orleans for Madi Grais in February.

We are planning to go to Los Angles and take 10 over to NO.

Is ther a better route that time of year.

Not sure about I10 west of Texas, but a good choice during that time of the year in Texas and LA. Not sure of your planned length of stay for Mardi Gras, but check out some of the celebrations along I10 in Louisiana at different times than NO. We spend time around Lafayette, and Lake Charles in February and have a great time. Small towns, big celebrations.

You may want to take in some parades in Houma, La which is about 70 miles west of New Orleans on highway 90.

Two great parks are Cajun Palms RV Park in Lafayette LA, www.cajunpalms.com, exit #115 off I-10. 1/2 mile north of I-10 on Barn Rd. Another is Lakeside RV park in Livingston LA, www.lakeside-rvpark.com, exit #22 off I-12. One mile south at this exit. There are many other great RV Parks in the area. Have a safe trip and enjoy the good food.

Just because I do not like LA I usually head for Barstow, and take I 40 east, then I95 to I10.

Now whats wrong with Louisiana? Our carry permits are recognized by most of the 48 states....and our food is delicious.

Any road would be better than I5 in California. Neighbor was down there last spring, cost him two tires and the road was so bad fastest he could pull was 45.

My biggest concern is the snow if I take the northern route through Idaho and Utah.

I have derived I5 northbound a few times and it is bad, but I think better than snow on the roads.

+1 on staying at Cajun Palms, its a primo resort!
I would take either I-5 (quicker and boring) or Hwy 99 south from Sacramento to highway 58, to either I-40 thru Amarillo, or take US395 south to I-15 to I-10 and go the southern route. Taking I-40 that time of year, you could get stuck in snow in a couple of places on the route, it would have to be a real time decision depending on the weather. I think the southern route will have less hills to climb, if I remember right, it;s kind of flat except for a couple of places.

We did the I-10 route in May of 2010 without any issues.

LA = Los Angeles, sorry did not mean the state. Even though my Garmin GPS thinks LA Fitness is Louisiana Fitness :-)

I-10 through New Mexico and West Texas can have snow. Just watch the weather reports and travel accordingly.

I5 to Bakersfield,58 to Barstow, I15 South to I10 although you can still hit snow in the Tehachapi's if the weather is decent this is the way to go. If the weather is bad you will probably still hit snow on the grapevine so might as well just sit it out in Bakersfield then head over to Barstow anyway. Sure beats driving through LA

I have driven Seattle to Tucson many times, you have the right idea, down
the 5 to the 10 all the way to NO, in the winter. In summer, thru Idaho and Utah.
The 5 isn't the best, but not that bad either. I go 60-65 all the way, no
problems, if you can't go over 45, get new shocks or get some balls, I mean
new ball joints of course.
Not sure why everyone thinks you have to go through LA (the city), just take
the 210 from the 5 before you get to LA, it will take you across the
northern edge of LA and drop you right back down on the 10 near Redlands.
Once you get to Texas, I'm not familiar with that road.
This route will probably have the least bad weather and mountains.

And I have done Bakersfield to Barstow on 58, partial 2-lane or construction,
terrible road, slow going.
