Sevierville,TN to Cherokee NC 441

I am getting mixed reviews about driving south from Sevierville, TN to Cherokee NC via 441 South.

I have been told that the road is NOT good to drive a 43 ft. plus tow. I know I can go to 411 to 40 then down for better driving.

Have you done it the scenic way or should I stay away and go a major Hwy?

I've done that route on a Motorcycle. But don't think I would try with the motorhome. You could make it but not worth the drive would be very slow in some spots.

I do it several times a year pulling ford expedition, went there 2 weeks ago they were working on the roads so there were delays. Don't panic going through tunnels. And remember swing wide on right curves some rocks stick out. I even met a tour bus we past each other fine. Going around I believe adds about 45 minutes.

Hi Happymi,
I have done this route several times. It is really no problem. The speed limit is such that it is really a tourist drive.

Happymi:

It's a VERY short distance and a great little day trip over and back. Why not take it first as a day trip to see what ya think. I've seen rigs traveling it when we've visited BUT only you can decide. Either way, ya gotta visit Newfound Gap, and DO take the little drive out to see vistas at Clingman Dome.
