Smokeys

As a general question, any input on the drive I can expect thru the Smokey Mtns. Headed to S. Carolina in late Dec. early Jan.
Debating if I should plan the route or steer around via Atlanta?

Will you drive I40 or try and go through the NP?? I40 is usually OK but it can be hit or miss depending on temps and precipitation. Also a possibility of black ice if it is cold and heavy frost sets in. Driving through the NP can be trickier with more curves, steeper grades and some of the roads never see the sun.

Best advice is to monitor weather and make a decision. Check highway driving conditions on internet.

You can get current road conditions at any given time by checking the highway cameras that are available all around the country.

Don't know if there are enough cameras in the Smokeys to suit your purpose, but it might be worth a look
