Smoothest Roads -- Dallas to Albuquerque

We are in Dallas and will be leaving to Albuquerque in about a week. Due to a lower back injury, the DW is extremely sensitive to road bumps and vibrations, so we are trying to sort out the smoothest, best roads. We are in a 44 foot MH and towing a car.

Option 1. At this time, we are looking at Hwy 287 up to Amarillo and then 40 into Albuquerque. Has anyone driven 287 recently? If so, what are the current conditions? How is the ride?

Option 2. The other route we are considering is Hwy 20 to Big Springs, TX, then north 87 to 137 to Brownfield, TX, then 380 to Roswell, NM, and then 285 up to Hwy 40 to Albuquerque. Anyone drive this lately? Current conditions?

Besides the above 2 options, any alternatives for a smooth ride?

Sorry no help with the smooth roads in Texas - we have traveled a lot this summer and the one thing that EVERYONE can Agree on is the roads are not smooth - except in Kansas and some parts of Missouri.

If you find a good road report back as they are few and far between - in our case the two lane RT 36 across the top of Kansas has been a pleasure. Little traffic and smooth sailing the entire drive.

Best of Luck,

We took Hwy 287 from Dallas to Amarillo about a month ago and saw no issues with it and thought it was a pretty good route. Made a note to myself to take it again if going that way. We went to Angel Fire, NM from Amarillo so do not know about I-40.
I'm not familiar with the option 2 route.
You'll probably get some other responses that may help in your decision. I sympathize with your wife's back condition and hope you can just take your time and have a good trip.
Thanks,

Option 1

We travel to AMA several times a year. 287 is a good road and 40 is also.

Cutting across TX and NM would be worse.

Came across 287 from Decatur to Amarillo a month ago ... seemed pretty good.
