Snow on I80

Planning to go from Florida to Portland, OR in October using I80. What are the chances of hitting snow thru Wyoming and Colorado?

About 30% chance..I would be more concerned about the possibility of high winds across US-287/I-70/I-25/I80

You can never tell before hand for either state. But with today's technology you can find out in real time what is going on and either re-route and stay in place for a few days.

For Colorado go to https://cotrip.org. You will find all relevant info from construction issues to weather.

For Wyoming go to https://wyoroad.info/. Find the same info.

You will have to browse through the websites to become accustom to them.

I-80 was already closed in WY last week due to snow.

I've hit snow between Cheyenne and Laramie in early October. Last June we had to pull over at a rest area near Laramie because of snow.

It's imperative that you keep a close eye on the local weather and the highway message boards whenever you travel through the Rockies regardless of the time of year.

If it snows just allow time to stay over an extra night or two. They clear interstates fast.

I hope you have an excellent reason for going to Portland right now.

Well, I'm not sure it's a excellent reason but I have about 25 family members in the area and none of them seem too interested in visiting us in Florida. Plus we're going to Santa Cruz, CA also. A friend of mine there owns a machine shop and we get to park in his parking lot for free. Full hookups.

We'll make sure to carry plenty of water and fuel over the Rockies.

Thanks to everyone for responding. It's as I was afraid of.
