You have so many routes available that weather is the key. Get on line and look at the weather for the route quickest out of the snow and ice. Bad weather I would go Pasco to Portland to Bakersfield. The more used highways will have less bad road.

If it were me I'd probably head to The Dalles and go down Hwy 97 to I-5. Be sure to check out the Oregon highway cameras (ODOT) as well as the weather. TripCheck - Oregon Department of Transportation
I believe you can get to the Caltrans cameras through the ODOT site.

Thank you for the ODOT link , thats awesome . I am planning to head down thru Bend , but the final decision will be made tomorrow after checking Bend weather , cams , etc. We've been driving in snow here since early November BUT my other rigs are 4WD . It was 4 degrees at home this morning , a little north of Spokane , with snow in the forcast for tomorrow , can't wait for some better weather

You can also dial 511 on your cell phone and get the road conditions on any road within the state, including pass conditions. When in Washington, 511 will give you Washington roads and passes. When in Oregon, 511 will give you Oregon roads and passes. I assume it works in all states, but I know it works in Oregon, Washington, and Nevada, because we've used 511 in those states.

49north, Please do watch the weather - Medford & Klamath Falls are predicting heavy snow Wednesday and Thursday. You may want to want to wait another day before heading south or take the longer coastal route. Undoubtedly chains will be required on passes in Southern Oregon & Northern California - if the weather people are correct.
Safe Travels

Crap , now it's a snowy mess in Salem / Eugene area. Can't win lol. Should be fine soon as it warms up a few degrees and melts this snow off. They actually had school closures in Portland

49north - I think that since you are in Eugene this morning you'll safely get through the passes today on I-5 and should be able to get to Redding, CA this afternoon. From there on no mountain passes until the Grapevine. The Medford news & weather forecasters are expecting more rain and not much snow in Southern Oregon & Northern CA.
Safe Travels
