Spokane, WA to Thompson Falls, MT

Does anyone have experience with the travel on the route from the Spokane, WA International Airport to Thompson Falls, MT ?

According to Google Maps it looks like going north on either "2" or "95" and then picking up "200" to go south/east into the area of Thompson Falls, MT.

Concern is the condition and safety of that route during winter months - Jan, Feb, Mar, etc. ? Is it a good option ?

I haven't done it during the winter months, but it is good road. The elevation gain on that route is significantly less than going I-90 to 200, which should help road conditions some.

If you do not have a strict schedule to adhere to, just watch the weather patterns and make the trip when the weather is favorable. That is a major route so it is maintained. Log into the ID and MT DOT sites and keep track of the road conditions. It is a one day trip so it should not be a problem.

That is a great route and beautiful. There is no route in that area thatís good however when the winter storms arrive. Even I 90 thru Idaho May have chains required. Watch the weather.

Thanks all for responding. Question - is the route to Thompson Falls area better approached from Missoula ? Would that prove to be a better [ safer] route during winter months rather than approaching from the Spokane area ?
