St. Louis to Rapid City Route
First time driving this route - anyone have comments on should I stay on the interstate 70 to KC then north on 29 (or) shall I maybe jump onto highway 63 or 61 north to 80 and hit 29 north of Omaha?
Actually starting out in Nashville so will stay in Warrenton area if on 70, or looking at Bowling Green if opt for Hwy 61 option.
Route trip miles seem about same, but I do like to avoid metro areas when possible. Class A with Jeep in tow.

If you are going soon be sure to check the roads due to flodding. 100 miles of I-29 is closed between Omaha and St. Louis

As above there is a lot of roads closed because of flooding now.
The route that I take is to go north on 61 to highway 36 across Missouri.
Take I 29 north to I 90 if you want interstate most of the way.
More attractive route would take you via the Nebraska sandhills.
Take I 29 to highway 2 at Nebraska City and follow it to Lincoln.
At Lincoln take I 80 west to Grand Island. Then take highway 2 across the sandhills.

Check the MO and IA DOT sites for latest on closures. Last time I checked a couple of days ago, MO DOT said I-29 was closed at the IA border and recommended taking I-35.

If you do the I70 - I29 - I90 route just be sure to slow down going through Sioux City....they have perpetual construction on I29 through there! I have pulled a 38' fifth wheel through it so it is doable but just take it easy! We live north of there in Sioux Falls and as of right now no issues on I29 or I90. I will say that once you head west on I90 it is about 300 miles of boredom before you start getting into more interesting country!

You guys think there'll be lots of road construction going on in the flood areas in September?.....Going to Georgia then, but could that the southern route...

I would think that the Interstates should be good to go by September. However, if you want to travel the secondary roads you should check those before you travel.

Would something like this work - https://binged.it/2P6suaF - if you look out to where you think you may land each night - often you will run across a Good Reservoir Campground.
Fun to just bump along the Back Roads.
Just a thought,
