I will let y'all know. I really want to try 88. I have gone over 58 many times. My Dodge is pulling well lately. I keep looking at the 8,000ft climb wondering if it will slow me down enough to even it out with taking 58 around? Another thing is the chance of my wife getting altitude sickness. She doesn't do the rapid climb/rapid decent well. But a quad cab truck with 5 of us, 2 small dogs, no a/c, and 2 additional hours is a big difference. I will probably decide last minute. Thanks to everyone.

As TampaDave said, eastbound 88 will be long and mostly gradual. The downhill portion is steeper but is less than a 2000' descent. At Topaz lake on 395 you are another 1000 down (to 5,000').

The last trailer I towed over that pass was a 19ft Tahoe Light behind a 2003 Durango. I wouldn't hesitate to take it with my Axis towing a dinghy.

As for the 8000 ft pass, I just turn up my oxygen concentrator. :-)

Almost forgot to recommend the berry cobbler at Sorensen's Cafe. On your right after you pass the left turn for 89 North to South Lake Tahoe. It's part of the Wylder Hotel.

Thanks Wildwoods22! That's real good to know. I try to help out the local economy whenever I can.
