Strong Arm Robbery KY Rest Area

Heard from a friend who was robbed in broad daylight at a KY rest area on I-75

Apparently a carload of skanky looking young people followed her back to motorhome while she was walking her German Shepard. Grabbed her purse and took the cash, and then sauntered off. Pretty brazen, and apparently with no concern for whatever passes for law enforcement in KY.
apparently the same crew has been "working" the KY rest areas for some time.

Be careful.

Sad. I am guessing there is no on site security there.

It always pays to be aware of your surroundings.

Just having pepper spray might have stopped this, my wife carries it. I carry something heavier.

What was the Shepard doing while she was getting mugged

Thank you for the heads up. We are headed that way next month and you just reminded me that I have not put the .357 mag in the new MH. It's now out and will be under the seat tomorrow. Unlike the German Shepard, it barks here and bites way over there.

I find nothing of the above incident online. Do you have a link?

The most recent robbery happened in 2012 and a lady with a dog and motorhome wasn't involved. The robbers were captured.

Apparently KY does not provide security in their rest areas - at least that is what the police informed my friend.

The victim had a hand gun inside the motor home and the robbery occurred right at the MH doorway. Doesn't do you any good unless it is within reach and you are willing to use it.

The GSD is not a trained protection dog, and it is probably lucky it didn't go into protective mode, because it is likely that the skanks were armed, although no weapon was displayed. I travel with three Labs and I am sure they would do nothing to protect me, nor do I want them to represent any danger to the public. It takes a good bit of training to get a dog that is reliable for protection work, and I have seen what goes into it.

Pepper spray would likely have escalated the situation and would not have been effective against the four who were involved.

I am a CWP holder, but the only effective thing I can imagine in the situation would be to draw and drop one of the perps immediately. By the time they are in my personal space, it is too late to threaten with a pistol. The problem is that there was no immanent threat of lethal force, and any firearm use would have big legal repercussions.

The lesson here is to be careful. If you leave your RV make sure you stay close enough to the RV to retreat inside your vehicle, and don't let strangers get close to you.

I have seen nothing on-line, but I am quite sure it happened.

Good advice. We don't have to be paranoid about this, but it doesn't hurt to be very aware of one's surroundings.

Give them the purse and throw them the watch too. It's not worth killing someone or risking your own wellbeing.

You may be right but I do not like being a victim.

Cooperhawk, it appears that your PC brainwashing has failed Please report to the nearest facility to have it reapplied.
