SW Virginia to Niagara Falls

We're heading from Roanoke, VA to Buffalo next week. Streets and Trips routes me up 1-81 to Winchester, VA, then off on 522 up into WV, a bunch of different roads in PA, and eventually using rt. 219 thru much of PA and into Buffalo.

An alternate for me would be to use 1-64 to Beckley, WV, cut across the Mountaineer Expressway (19) to I-79 which then looks like a straight shot up to I-90 along Lake Erie.

From any of my fellow PA and/or NY travelers, which is the better route?

We were just in that area and my version of S & T set for preferred roads (four lane roads or better routing) suggests 64 to 81 to 70 to 76 to 79 and finally 90. A total of 611 miles. Have fun and enjoy the trip. I would suggest taking your passport and slipping over to the Canadian side to get the best view of the falls.

I 79 to I90 is the best! Was just there 3 weeks ago! I live on the Pa WV border. Took 51 N to 70 to 79 to 90. Wonderful drive. Made good time.
