Texas to Maine

We have never been in the northeast, but are planning to go from east Texas to Bar Harbor, Maine in August - September, traveling in a 34 foot gas Class A towing a Jeep Liberty. We are fairly experienced rv'ers, but this will be our longest trip ever taken and into totally unknown territory.
Tentative route will be I20 to Jackson, MS to Birmingham, AL then I59 to Chattanooga; on thru Knoxville; I81 to Roanoke, VA; Harrisburg, PA; Binghampton, NY; Concord, NH; Portland, ME and to Bar Harbor. This is about 2,000 miles. Just a fairly direct looking route on Google maps.
We can take our time and sight-see along the way, both coming and going.
1) Are there campgrounds with full hookups north of TN, and will we need reservations? We are not real boondockers. (Have never been north of TN in our travels before)
2) Are there any routes or places we should avoid?
3) Any places we must see?
We are in the early stages of planning so any general advice or ideas are apprecitated.
Thanks,

hi folks. I live here in maine and am shore distance from bar harbor. While there are place to stay near bar harbor it can be pricey because like everywhere the economy is struggling. Also depending on the size of your rig it can be tricky if you envision getting in and out of bar harbor as it is quite congested. while bar harbor is really nice to see, there are many many other spots here in maine as well.
York Harbor, camden, rockland, portland etc. I am a very short commute from bar harbor and travel there for business frequently. If I can answer any questions let me know
