  • Watch for bicyclists as they have the same rights and responsibilities as motorists. Share the road and give at least 3 feet of space when passing.
  • Watch for wildlife on the road, especially in the morning and evening.
  • If driving a recreational vehicle (RV) be alert to areas closed to RVs. Visit our recreational vehicle page https://www.nps.gov/natr/planyourvisit/rvs.htm for more information.
Their RV page lists 6 different pulloffs that are closed to RV's ALL the time. The page also list bridge heights.

If you intend to stay at the Thousand Trail CG at mp 380 (private) 800-288-7245, DO NOT FOLLOW YOUR GPS, FOLLOW THE CG WEBSITE DIRECTIONS FOLLOWING A GPS WILL EXIT YOU RIGHT INTO AN 11'0" UNDERPASS, WITH VERY LITTLE TIME TO REACT, AS EVIDENCED BY A/C PARTS LAYING BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.

It is best to get off at Meriwether Lewis Monument turnoff and get on TN20 and take Napier Road road from Summertown.
Great info! Thanks for the post!

When you exit at the Northern Terminus and looking for a place to camp there is a nice state park about 20 miles west near Dickson, Montgomery Bell SP. Nice golf course. Or if you want to head towards Chattanooga, Henry Horton SP is a consideration. Also a nice GC.

I live about 40 miles from the Trace on the Natchez end and ride my motorcycle on it often. I've only been as far as Tupelo though. I made that a 2 day trip when I went to Tupelo to stop at all of the historic attractions that I wanted to stop at.
It's a very nice and scenic drive. The speed limit is 50 mph and they do patrol it regular. It seems many times that I'm riding the trace, the rangers have someone pulled over.
Keep your speed down and enjoy the ride.

We wanted to drive the Trace earlier this week. The entire length of it was closed due to downed trees and ice. Three days.

I could imagine the tree damage due to the recent ice storm. We are still in cleanup mode around here too.
