The Strip District in Pittsburgh PA

Hello all:

On the way home from Niagara Falls this May, we’ll be passing through Pittsburgh in a 38 Ft MH with a toad. We want to check out “The Strip” but have better sense, I hope, than to just drive into this area without a plan! Anyone know of a safe (ok, relatively safe) place that we could park our rig near this area for a few hours and use the toad to drive in. I’ve never done this but am thinking maybe a Love’s or similar RV friendly truck stop might work. If all else fails, we’ll just find a campground for the night and do it that way.

Thanks- pbpaul

Since you are coming from Niagara Falls, I assume you will be on I-79 South. If that is the case, I would get off 79 at Cranberry & Rt 228. There is a super WalMart, Costco, Home Depot, Lowes, Cracker Barrel there among several other stores. Then take I-79 south to I-279. Then either take the Veteran's bridge over the Allegheny river & get off on Grant St or get off before the Veteran's bridge on the North side and take the Rachel Carson bridge, old 9th street bridge, or the 16th street bridge over to the strip district. Its probably around 20 miles & you will be back tracking back to Cranberry. There are no truck stops like Flying J or Love's around Pittsburgh...

Just a follow up, WhiskeyRiver, to thank you again for your help. We were able to park the whole rig where you suggested and took the toad to and from The Strip without a hitch. It was an interesting place with restaurants, fresh open markets, spices and such, and a pretty cool grocery place called Wholey that was in itself worth the trip. Met two of the owners, Bobby and Jimmy Wholey in the process. Thanks again.
