This route has restricted usage or private roads

I am planning our yearly trip to the Texas Gulf Coast and run into a question.

Normally we just drive from southern Arizona on I-10 to San Antonio and then on I-37 down to the general Corpus Christi area, but this year I thought I would stop at some recreational areas north of San Antonio on the outbound part of our trip. I used Google Maps to route us to Krause Springs in Spicewood, Tx and then down toward Corpus Christi, but Google Maps then told me that the route from Krause Springs toward Corpus Christi had restricted usage or private roads. Can anyone familiar with this area give me some idea what Google Maps is referring to?

The route is US 281 to I-37 and what along there is either private or restricted? Is US 281 a toll road? Or does it restrict RVs? What is Google Maps trying to tell me?

I don't see restrictions on Google Maps.

However, from Spicewood, TX I'd take a more scenic route through the Hill Country .... 71 west from Spicewood to 281 to Johnson City to 290 to Fredericksburg to 16 Kerrville to 173 to I-37 to Corpus. Plan a stop for a couple days around Fredericksburg and EXPLORE.

Your route from Spicewood to Corpus Christi is 232 miles and my suggestion is 294 miles and a lot prettier.

Chances are that restricted or private road is the entrance into the park. A call to them would be your best bet to confirm that. Many times I get a warning on my GPS about gravel roads and it's just the park entrance.

Yes, Google maps says national parks are toll roads because of the entrance station.

I don’t think it’s AI. A long time ago before AI they called the agricultural check station on 97 in Northern California a toll booth.

Thank you for the suggestion.

We travel east from southern Arizona at least once a year, sometimes more, heading toward the Texas Gulf Coast or, sometimes, Louisiana and/or Florida and during some of those trips we have taken shortcuts around San Antonio In particular we have stopped at Fredericksburg and several of the places along the way and spent some time "touristing", and I really enjoyed the time around Fredericksburg, so that is a very good suggestion.

The backroads can also be very time consuming. We once ran into a bicycle event around Austin that added about half a day to our trip and I have always been grateful that we were not low of fuel since we were slowed down to bicycle speed for hours.

Yes. Thanks. Apparently that is the issue, and I should have suspected it.

I had actually been mapping from Krause Springs at Spicewood, not at Spicewood Texas itself and when I do map from Spicewood instead I do not get that warning.
