Top of the World
We are considering taking our MH and toad on the Top of the World highway from Dawson City YT through to Alaska. I have found that it is only open for a limited time during summer months. I was wondering if there is an “optimum” to do it or any thing else I should know. Would be interested in hearing from anyone who has done it.

We've done it with our 40' motorhome and didn't encounter any issues. The ferry from Dawson City is very short across the river and they work efficiently and safely for you. If you get to the highway and it's been raining for days or the forecast calls for rain the day you plan to take it; it's best to have the road dry out for a day or two. You need to be flexible - for the whole Alaskan trip. From Tok to Chicken can be the worse part if raining. If you can get beyond that you're good to go.
We took the route from Whitehorse to Dawson City (all paved and plan at least a few days here) then crossed with the ferry and on to Chicken (fun place) and Tok.

Did it twice. In a 5er and class A gas. No problems but it does require a short ferry ride out of Dawson City. The road was dry, but caution is required and some strips were only wide enough for one lane of traffic, going into Chicken for example. The second trip there was a 43' DP w/ us. Plenty of places to boondock or Chicken has parking. On our last trip the road was a mess because of road construction, but have no idea if it has been finished. If I were going back, I'd do it again.

We did it in reverse with a TC spending a few days in the campground across the river from Dawson City while visiting Dawson, and a few days in Chicken exploring
and panning for gold.
Time well spent, IMHO.
