Travel from Austin west

Any recommendations on which highways are more rv friendly before the connection to the 10? Leaving Austin traveling west and seems to be a lot of highway congestion. Any suggestions? Thanks!

One suggestion is US290 to US281, then either (1) stay on 290 to Johnson City, Fredricksburg and to I10, or (2) south on 281 to Texas 46 to Boerne. Enjoy your drive through hill country.

I should have also mentioned that Sth Llano River State Park, just south of Junction, is a great overnight (or longer if you have the time).

Thank you. We just drove in a car to Johnson city today & it was very congested. How is the 71 to the 29? We are staying at mckinney state park - love it. I will keep the other location in mind for our next visit.

I've not driven that. But when you get to Llano, be sure to stop at Coopers BBQ.
