Any current information about taking route 2 from Montpelier VT to Bar Harbor MA. This will be one leg of our trip from Florence SC through Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, New York, Vermont and Maine that will be off the interstate highways
Thanks for any help

Rt 2, especially in Vermont is sloooow going, as well as pretty twisty. Oh and make sure the filling in your teeth are solid. New Hampshire roads are much better. Maine - lots of hills but decent roads. Every tired Subaru in the US seems to go to Vermont to die, often in front of me. Regardless of this, we love Vermont, have many Vermonter friends and travel there several times a year

Well, if your objective is to stay off the interstates and take the local "scenic route", Rt 2 certainly qualifies. We've traveled it to the Bar Harbor area 3 times in a 40 ft motorhome and once with a 5W and never had major difficulty but it is definitely two-lane road with twists and hills. And numerous small towns and attendant congestion. It gets better in Maine.

Late to the party, but I have just taken Hwy 2. It is a beautiful drive. However, It shook my 45 ft entegra to the point of breaking a few parts of it. Also...last fuel stop was full of water.

It's been a few years, but I wrote a trip report about my run through that country. I did not try Vermont Hwy 2.

Bar Harbor is pronounced "Ba Haba" . Those Mainers leave off the "R(s)".
